Following the last safety commission in autumn 2024 and a fire risk assessment, access conditions to the Tignes funicular had to be adapted to ensure the safety of all passengers.
Due to the tunnel's specific characteristics, it is imperative that users can move independently and quickly on narrow metal steps in the event of an evacuation. Unfortunately, it is not possible to ensure safe evacuation for people with reduced mobility or lower limb injuries, as these movements require total mobility.
As a result, people with lower-limb injuries, those requiring crutches or other mobility aids will not be able to access the funicular, also to prevent any further risk of injury. However, people with prostheses enabling them to be completely independent (e.g. skiers and snowboarders) will be able to use the funicular.
Funicular staff are on hand to welcome all customers and assess their ability to move about freely. Access may be refused to those deemed unable to move around freely and without difficulty, taking into account safety requirements in the event of evacuation.
We understand that this measure may cause inconvenience to our customers.
